But, oh, how the comment layout is neat.

Nice, I like the way the code shows on the side, but if it's a long article you still have to scroll up.
You might want to look at this: http://www.snook.ca/archives/000368.php. The comment system is fixed to the side of the post.
And also at this: http://www.brandspankingnew.net/archive/2005/07/css_footnotes_r.html. He's created a little sidenotes thing that I like - it does what your comment link does.
A combination of the two codes may enable readers to click on the link and have the comments show up on the right without having to scroll up.
Or you could have it just scroll up to the comments instead of fixing it to the side.
Some JavaScript may be required, and JS is not my forte.
I'm complicating this, confusing myself. I like what you've done, so no doubt I'll be back to go through the code for myself.

Both those sites have some very good information, thank you for sharing (also with the "acronym title=''" thing from your site is something I didn't know--very cool). I will have a more in-depth look at them in the coming weeks.

Dearest Fathima, those site are indeed well-coded. The execution would even be simple--I have a prototype where comments have a (mozilla) fixed position and display in the same division regardless of id #. However, at times, there are more comments than space in the div. And, a fixed division does not scroll.

My plans, for the next coding attempt, are to provide a page position link with show.comments link, a la your page. yes I thing that shall work out quite nicely.

But, that footnote system is nothing short of briliant for footnotes for quasi-professional web publishing, with extreme gratitude for your contribution of the link, I shall add it to my toolbox.

I left work early today. "No, no," I told Byron, "I can't party with you guys tonight--I'm going home to get some sleep."

Instead, I've been playing around with CSS since I got home. The code is definately not elegant; more of a mishmash from different sources.
