GM cotton gives the tampon wearer modified genetic trait, eh? I'll buy that for a dollar. for not being a geneticist, your intuitions are dead on. Mendel and his peas would agree that, no, genetic code does not change according to physical contact, unless its intercourse (i love to state the obvious). that's as superfluous as suggesting that if i wear colored contacts while pregnant my child will inherit a gene for colored eyes. i'm pretty insulted that was attempted to be passed off as actual research at a conference and i wasn't even there!

Damn corrupt research institutions. Everyone has a price.

Actually, you don't necessarily need to worry about this but i heard that tampons contain asbestos since they bleach them to get that extra white, clean appearance. Asbestos and the vaginal canal, not a good combo.

Sorrily, the problem this time wasn't with the institution, it was with biofreedom. Why can't they say, "it's unethical to be playing God with our food supply," or, "there are now four varieties of canola worlwide where once there were hundreds: biodiversity is an issue," or maybe even, "genetic engineering techniques are not as precise as the chemical companies claim, every time rDNA of interest is insterted into a specimin, random novel code is insterted as well".

But no. The problem is, they don't even know why they're against it--how am I supposed to enhance my understanding of their perspectives if they don't even know why.

Asbestos in tampons, eh? i didn't even know that asbestos was allowed anymore. great. Now i can't sleep with a woman who uses bleached tampons--and who doesn't?

To my chagrin, at this farmers' conference yesterday, I represented Big Brother on a GM-issues panel. I'm no fan of increasing corporate domination of markets--especially to the extent our research institutions are in their pockets. But, the extreme left seems to have an explicit mission to promote and procure blatant lies--which is too bad; for, comments like, "[...] it has been scientifically proven that using GM cotton in tampons will give the tampon-wearer the modified genetic trait," only undermine the credibility of the legitimate arguments.

And seriously, where do they come up with such nonsense? I'm no geneticist, but I'm pretty sure that sitting beside someone on the bus is not going to change your genetic code.

So, I ask the biofreedom rep which professional journals she reads.


"Well, there just hasn't been enough research to say anything about the repercussions of GM tech yet!"


Touché. I'm surrounded by morons (except for the people who read this! Yeah, people who read my blog are, it has been scientifically proven, of superior intellect).
