"The problem [...] is that people were sick and hungry not because of global shortages but because of wars and dictators." Peter Pringle, Food Inc.

obstinate resistance when surrounded, to fight hard when he
cannot help himself, and to obey promptly when he has fallen into
danger." --Sun Tsu
If this Discourse appear too long to be read at once, it may be divided
into six Parts: and, in the first, will be found various considerations
touching the Sciences; in the second, the principal rules of the Method
which the Author has discovered, in the third, certain of the rules of
Morals which he has deduced from this Method; in the fourth, the
reasonings by which he establishes the existence of God and of the Human
Soul, which are the foundations of his Metaphysic; in the fifth, the order

But if you keep the pawns distracted with trivial elections and economies and such, they won't have to face reality or be aware...and the capitalists can go on capitalizing without a backlash from the masses. and they can go on ruling the world. what the hell do they care? they're rich! and they'll be dead soon anyway so this mere ecosystem collapse won't have an immediate affect on them.
breathe. my cynicism gets the best of me sometimes. i can't help myself. this is a dangerously important issue that i feel strongly about; i'm glad you're discussing it. i get a interesting insight studying both economics and biology at school; you would think they are two different worlds, but they tie in on a certain level. as a cause i have become this anti-corporate, greenpeace membership toting, biocentric type.
digression...i was recommended Naomie Kline by one of my professors. got any suggestions??
One doesn't have to be completely biocentric to acknowledge the importance of being responsible to our ecosystems. I can appreciate how economic and biological worlds tie into each other; the natural environment is the source of all economic wealth on some level--and its eventual destination. That the environment is neglected from the common circular flow conception is a travesty, considering that "the only truly exogenous input into our circular-flow depiction [...] is solar energy" (Olewiler).
You were recommended Naomie Kline. No Logo? I havn't read it yet. I just finished Noam Chomsky's Hegemony or Survival, it's an interesting interpretation of recent American history. Chomsky is well-read, too: at timees he was seemlessly stringing together other people's words to promote his own conclusions without a word of his own--an interesting style.
