Many criticise potential environmental reform, citing devestating reprecussions for Canada's natural resource-based economy.
But why have we allowed exploitive, environmentally harmfull industry to flourish in the first place? Some industries will suffer under the proposed environmental regulations. Let them.
This is not merely another step in the game, this is changing the rules, a first-step towards restructure.
Ideally, by the same logic the neocons like to cite, the same people employed in the current explitive industry will not lose their jobs: their skills will be valuable in productive industry as well. But, it is essential that the government set up an economic incentive paradigm that encourages this migration to sustainable, productive economic growth.
