Just got back from camping for three days to discover that I have no shifts until next Thursday. This gives an excellent opportunity to get those long-procrastinated books for next semester and do a little pre-reading before classes start.
I had found a set of golf clubs at the Salvation Army for six dollars. So, I might go and take them for a spin (I have worked at a golf course for three years and am eligible for free golf whenever I like; it's about time I picket it up). Last week, I had tested them out on the driving range for a bit with Tomak, and they seemed alright.
And Tomak has left, once again, for Poland. All last month he pulled a 5PM to 7AM shift with no days off so the driving range was the only time I (or anyone) had seen him for some time. And now, he's off to become a doctor at the expense of Polish tax dollars. My dad had always told me to "never trust a Polish doctor": now I know why ;).
While purchasing the golf clubs, I ran into Tamara's mom (for some odd reason she was working at the thrift store -- but I doubt she is motivated by the extra income) who threatened me with a severe beating if I did not call Tamara at that very moment (such a persuasive woman). Anyhow, Tamara is as cynical and overachieving as always (and, I seem to be filling up next weeks golf schedule all right).
Haydn has taken his first steps while we were camping and now tromps around the house after his older sister. I tried to catch the memorable occasion on camera, but it seems that my invincible vivitar no longer records video (still takes impressive stills for those of you who have seen the damage done to it).
My new cell phone came in last week (free, courtesy of Rogers as they sweat under the new competition from Bell -- a special note, however, I am holistically against Bell/Sympatico as they have merged with Microsoft to offer internet service which surfs exclusively Microsoft-sponsored websites); it's pretty slick, i can send and receive email from my telephone, it connects to my palm pilot for interweb access, it has fancy-dancy polyphonic rings, it is exactly the same phone that most people I know have had for over a year (but mine was free, so there!).
My index finger (which I had previously mutilated with a potato peeler) has made a full recovery (there's not even any scarring). So, bar the disappointment from the lack of guitar playing at the last deck party, for I have been practicing and will make up for it.
In short: life is good. I am most exited about returning to school in two weeks: I have been getting almost bored without it.
